Columbus runs its karaoke as a circuit rather than a district. A host sets up in a bar on that bar's karaoke night, and for a few hours the place is a show: the Hot Spot three nights a week, the Duggie out in Reynoldsburg, Oldfield's in Italian Village on a Thursday. Catch the right night and a quiet bar turns into your stage.

Two venues hold the week steady. Silla on the northwest side sings every single night, and X Space Karaoke, also on the northwest side, rents the metro's confirmed private rooms six nights a week. From there it is a matter of matching the night to the neighborhood — and the ring towns each keep a night of their own, from Hilliard out to Pataskala.

The High Street spine

North of downtown, the karaoke nights line up along and around High Street. Karaoke @ Ravari Room takes Tuesdays, and Brew-Stirs Clintonville Tavern a stretch further north takes Tuesdays too. Eldorado's Food & Spirits, further up again in Clintonville, runs Thursday and Saturday.

Off the spine, Cafe Bourbon Street in the campus area sings on Wednesdays, and The Thirsty Scholar holds down Monday — every week, and free. On a Monday, that is worth knowing.

Every suburb takes a night

The ring towns do not compete with each other; they rota. Wednesday is Pataskala at CJ O'Malley's, Gahanna at The Pub, Pickerington at Classic's Pizza, and Westerville at Cushions Billiards & Lounge — which also takes Sundays. Thursday is Marysville at Stephens Lounge. Friday is Grove City at The Jackpot Lounge, and Hilliard takes Friday and Saturday at Sloopy's Pub.

The long drive south is Mike's Pizza & Pub in Ashville, which at three nights — Thursday, Friday and Saturday — matches the Duggie in Reynoldsburg for the busiest calendar outside the city proper.
