Two private-room houses split the week between them. KBOX in Oakland runs Monday to Saturday, with nine boxes of various sizes. Cobra Lounge in Bloomfield runs Sunday to Thursday. Between the two, a room is open every night of the week — and around them, most of the metro's twenty-eight confirmed venues keep one or two nights each, with Bob's Garage in Blawnox singing four.

The appointment most of the city keeps is Thursday: thirteen of the twenty-eight run karaoke that night, from the South Side to the North Hills. And the neighbourhood bars name their nights with real affection — a Cappyoke, a Bareoke, karaoke just past the bowling lanes.

The venues that carry the week

Four places run three or more nights; nearly everything else in this guide is a once- or twice-a-week fixture.

  • KBOX

    214 S Craig St · Oakland

Nine private boxes of various sizes, six days a week — evenings midweek, and from 2pm on Friday and Saturday.

  • Cobra Lounge

    4305 Main St · Bloomfield

Three private karaoke rooms open Sunday through Thursday, 9pm to 2am — the rooms that cover the night KBOX doesn't.

  • Bob's Garage

    1372 Freeport Rd · Blawnox

Karaoke Wednesday through Saturday — four nights, the most of any bar in this metro.

  • Wanna B's

    380 N Shore Dr · North Shore

Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, in a room open 2pm to 2am.

Bareoke, Cappyoke, and lane 14

Pittsburgh names its nights. Cappy's Cafe on Walnut Street runs #Cappyoke on Fridays at 9:30pm. Tennyson Lodge in Bethel Park offers Bareoke on Wednesday or Friday nights, 10pm to 2am. Cals Cantina on Eden Park Boulevard holds a Thursday karaoke plus a Tuesday night it calls TUTU karaoke.

And Arsenal Lanes in Lawrenceville reserves Fridays for karaoke, with an all-you-can-bowl special from 9pm to midnight and the singing running just beyond lane 14.

Friday, in the neighbourhoods

Stinky's on Hatfield Street sings every Friday at 9pm. Obey House Tavern on Steuben Street gives Friday to karaoke and Saturday to local bands, and out at Natrona Heights the Saxon Inn makes the same split — karaoke Friday at 9, live music Saturday. McMinn's Pub & Grille on Willow Avenue runs every other Friday, which is worth checking before you drive, and Friday is also the night at the Filipino American Club of Ambridge, up the Ohio.

The exception to the 9pm start is Green Pepper on Murray Avenue, whose karaoke lounge runs Friday and Saturday from 8 to 10pm — the earliest finish in this guide, and the only karaoke here you could be home from by half past ten.

The rest of the week

Wednesdays have their own small circuit: The Green Room at Station Square runs Wednesday and Sunday at 9pm, Kendrew's Lounge on Brodhead Road goes 9pm to 1am with Party On Entertainment, and Roy's By The Tracks in Finleyville covers Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, 9pm to 1am.

Tuesdays are thinner but real — Señor Frogs on West Liberty Avenue sits a few blocks from the Apple Inn, which also sings that night. Saturday has Nico's Recovery Room from 9:30pm, and Sunday doubles back to Rochester Inn in the North Hills, which pairs it with Thursday.
