Karaoke inSan Diego
Convoy Street sings to 4am on a weekend, and the Gaslamp will hand you a mic with no booking at all. San Diego splits its karaoke between a corridor of private rooms in Kearny Mesa and a walkable strip of open-mic bars downtown, and the night mostly plans itself from there.
Convoy Street is the city's karaoke corridor: five confirmed venues along it, mostly private rooms rented by the hour, two of them sharing a single address. The late hours live here too — several rooms run to 4am on Friday and Saturday, hours nothing downtown keeps.
The Gaslamp Quarter works the other way: open-mic bars where you sign up and sing to the room, walkable end to end, most finishing at 1 or 2am. Beyond the two districts sits a scattering of neighbourhood bars, including one that runs karaoke every night of the week and has done for a long time.

Where the late hours are
San Diego closes earlier than most cities its size, and downtown karaoke reflects that — Werewolf stops at 1am, the Gaslamplighter and the Lamplighter at 2am.
Convoy Street is the exception. Bobos and Jin Music Studios both run to 4am on Friday and Saturday, and Jin holds a 2:30am close on Sundays. If the night needs to keep going past two, it needs to go to Kearny Mesa.
The rest of the week
Away from the two districts, San Diego karaoke is a one-to-three-nights-a-week bar circuit spread across the mesas.
JT's Pub & Grill on Mission Gorge runs Wednesday to Sunday at 9pm — five nights, without being one of the everyday rooms. Peter D's on Clairemont Mesa does Thursday to Saturday, 9pm to 1:30am. Flicks on University Avenue takes Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and Pal Joey's on Waring Road runs Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Two are worth knowing for being unlike the rest: Nha Trang on Euclid is a Vietnamese karaoke bar open from 3pm Thursday through Sunday, and Chiquibaby's on Dewey Street runs karaoke nights midweek and a baile karaoke on Saturdays.
