Karaoke inDallas

Dallas built its karaoke the convenient way: nearly every private room in one pocket off Harry Hines Boulevard, two of them facing each other across a short street, one of them open until 4am. Bar nights take care of the rest of the city.

The hardest question is settled in advance here. Almost all of the private-room karaoke sits within about a mile of itself off Harry Hines Boulevard: two on Emerald Street, one on Goodnight Lane, one on Royal Lane. Want a room for your group? That is where you are going.

The rest of the city sings at open-mic bars, one or two nights a week each, mostly from around 9pm. A couple of those nights come with their own names and their own hosts. And Liquid Zoo runs it every single night, so there is always somewhere to walk into with nothing booked.

  • Duet K Town

11434 Emerald St · Northwest Dallas

Directly across Emerald Street from Gorae, open seven nights, 6pm to 2am. Between the two, this short street is the centre of karaoke in Dallas.

The bar circuit

Sign-up karaoke across the rest of Dallas. Only one runs every night; the rest are worth checking the day for.

  • Liquid Zoo

2506 Knight St · Oak Lawn

Seven nights a week, and the only open-mic karaoke in the city that is. The default when nothing has been arranged.

  • The Goat

7248 Gaston Ave · East Dallas

Two named nights with two different hosts: Sound Snobs Karaoke on Wednesdays at 9pm, and Javier's Liquid Courage Karaoke on Sundays at 9:30pm.

  • Pekers Bar

2615 Oak Lawn Ave · Oak Lawn

Friday and Saturday, 10pm to 2am. A late start, so it works as the second half of an evening rather than the whole of it.

  • Sharky's Bar & Grill

17453 Preston Rd · Far North Dallas

Thursdays at 8:30pm and Saturdays at 9:30pm, with a claimed 4TB of songs. If the problem is that nowhere has the track you want, start here.

Emerald Street

Gorae Karaoke at 11445 and Duet K Town at 11434 sit opposite each other on a short stretch of Emerald Street off Harry Hines, and both run private rooms seven nights a week. Duet closes at 2am; Gorae keeps going until 4am.

Family Karaoke is a two-minute drive away on Goodnight Lane, open Thursday and Sunday from 7pm to midnight and Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 2am. With Nozaro's on Harry Hines itself and mac karaoke on Royal Lane, five of the city's private-room venues sit inside one small pocket of north-west Dallas.

The rest of the week

Dallas spreads its remaining karaoke thinly, and a few of the nights are genuinely unusual in shape.

Barbara's Pavillion in Oak Cliff runs Thursdays and Sundays, plus the second Saturday of each month — worth checking the date rather than assuming. Gator's on North Market Street does the weekend. Island Club on Ferguson Road runs Wednesday and Saturday, and A Step Up Lounge on Walnut Hill takes Wednesdays at 9pm.

For a single night: Sonrisas #2 on Samuell Boulevard does Fridays, and so does The Magic Time Machine up on Belt Line Road.
