Bellaire Boulevard is the reason to take Houston seriously as a karaoke city. Seven confirmed venues sit along it, most of them KTV lounges renting private rooms by the hour, and four of them share one building. You can change your mind about where you are singing without leaving the car park.

The rest of the city runs a different night entirely: free or cheap open-mic karaoke in neighborhood bars, Wednesday through Saturday for the most part, where you put your name down and the room is yours for three minutes. Both are good nights. They are just not remotely the same night.

Private rooms, by the hour, all open seven nights a week. One of the densest stretches of karaoke in Texas.

Away from Bellaire, it is bars with a stage and a queue — plus two private-room options that are nowhere near Asiatown.

  • Seven nights, and open from the afternoon Monday to Thursday. Does both the public room and private rooms, which makes it the flexible answer out by the Galleria.

The building with four karaoke bars in it

One building on Bellaire Boulevard contains A Gogo KTV, Yes KTV, KTV Happy Zone and Neway Restaurant & Lounge — four separate confirmed karaoke venues under one roof, all open seven nights a week.

They are not identical. A Gogo opens earliest, before lunch. Yes KTV is BYOB and does open-room singing as well as private rooms. Neway runs both formats from the evening. Happy Zone opens in the afternoon at weekends. If you are organizing something for a group that cannot agree, this building does most of the negotiating for you.

The corridor continues either side of it: 麦客量贩MIC KTV rents rooms every night, 4seasons runs six nights and closes Tuesdays, and MTV Karaoke is further out along the boulevard.

The neighborhood circuit

Houston's open-mic karaoke reaches right across the city — most bars run one or two nights, so wherever you are, there is usually one close by.

Cockpit Bar & Grill out by Hobby Airport runs five nights, starting in the afternoon, and describes itself as Houston's airport karaoke bar. LA Club on West Bellfort does five nights. Christian's Tailgate in the Heights makes long nights of Friday and Saturday, and PJ's Sports Bar on West Gray does Friday and Saturday.

For a single night: La Iguana takes Mondays. Chayn's on Cypress Creek Parkway does Wednesdays. NJ's on Mangum runs Tuesdays and Fridays, and Echoes on Richmond spreads three across the week: Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
