This is a city that sings to the room. Put your name down and take the stage — that is the format nearly everywhere here, from suburban bars to cocktail lounges. If you want a door that closes, one venue on the Northeast Side rents private rooms, and a Filipino restaurant on the West Side keeps a VIP room beside its outdoor stage.

And the reach is real. Karaoke here stretches from Alamo Ranch out to Thousand Oaks, with six places running it seven nights a week. The practical question is which side of town you are on, never which night it is.

The Filipino karaoke thread

One of San Antonio's most distinctive karaoke venues is a Filipino restaurant, and it treats singing as part of the meal rather than an event bolted onto a bar.

Pinoy Tambayan on the West Side runs karaoke outside through the evening and keeps a VIP room going long after. Filipino street food comes alongside, and it opens in the afternoon: not a night out that begins at last call, which is the whole point.

The neighborhood bars

Beyond the nightly six, San Antonio karaoke is a one-night-a-week affair scattered across the suburbs, and the honest way to use it is to find the one nearest you.

Moe's Tx Tavern on the Northeast Side runs Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Marty's Cocktails near the airport does Friday and Saturday, late. Shady Lady Saloon on the East Side takes Wednesdays and Sundays. Our Bar on the Northwest Side runs Wednesdays and Saturdays.

For a single night: Finnegan's on the far North Side does Tuesdays. London Pub on the Northwest Side advertises free karaoke on Wednesdays. Rookies Too in North Central runs Thursdays, and Rebar takes Mondays. Pericos on the Northwest Side does an early Wednesday karaoke on the patio, seasonally from around April to November and only if the weather holds.
