The Valley's scene is shaped like the Valley: wide, and all the better for it. Fifty-two confirmed venues spread across nine cities, with Mesa holding eleven of them — more than any other suburb — and Scottsdale seven. Seven venues run karaoke all seven nights, from a North Phoenix comedy bar to a Glendale sports grill's side lounge.

Rooms here are the specialist option. Exactly four venues in the metro rent private karaoke rooms, all of them east of Phoenix proper in Tempe, Mesa and Scottsdale — six of the rooms are luxury suites, and one set runs to 4am on Friday and Saturday. Everywhere else, you take the mic in front of the bar, which is exactly how the Valley seems to like it.

A metro that sings to the room

The split here is lopsided in a way few metros are: 48 of the 52 confirmed venues are open-mic, sign-up-and-sing bars. The other three nightly places round out the always-open bench — AiNT NICKS TAVERN on 27th Avenue runs seven nights, and Papa T's Darkside Show does karaoke every single night of the week at 9pm on East Union Hills, at the same 3130 address as Marcel's, which takes Thursday through Sunday.

There is even a small chain: 414 Pub Pizza & Karaoke runs karaoke six nights, Tuesday through Sunday, at both of its locations — Southern Avenue in Mesa and Mill Avenue in Tempe.

Mesa carries the East Valley

Mesa's eleven confirmed venues make it the metro's second city of karaoke. Kay's Place on Alma School runs Thursday through Sunday at 9pm, Hambone Sports Bar and Grill on Main Street takes Thursday and Saturday, and September's Bar covers Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The odd one out is Painted Mountain Steak House, where Friday and Saturday karaoke runs 6pm to 9pm — finished before most of the Valley has started.

Chandler adds four more: Sawtooth Bar & Grill runs Wednesday to Saturday, 9pm to 1am, The 480 Bar does Thursday from 8pm and weekends from 9pm, and Jolie's Place pairs Tuesday karaoke at 9pm with $2 street tacos earlier in the day.

The edges of the week

Scottsdale past the nightly pair: Giligin's takes Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10pm to 2am, El Dorado Karaoke Night on McDowell runs Wednesday from 6:30pm and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9pm to 2am, and 92nd Street Cafe & Bar holds Friday and Saturday at 9pm.

And the metro keeps a few genuine outliers. Karaoke Star on Greenway is a smoke-free, alcohol-free performance venue with karaoke every Saturday from 8pm to midnight. Loft Again Bar & Grill runs Sunday and Monday from 7pm to midnight with KJ Layne and Shannon. Out west, Enoch's Sports Lounge in Peoria sings Friday to Sunday, 9pm to a very specific 1:45am.
